Gut Health

The gut Makeover

The Gut Makeover, Gut Instinct, Gut Feeing - these are justt a taste of the latest titles taking pride of place in your local bookstore. I have been extolling the importance of gut health for some time now but it seems the GUT is set to become even bigger (if thats possible!?) as scientists uncover more about how our microbiome (home to .....) impacts every organ in the body - y from our brain and skin to heart and emotional health.. Lots more to come on this so keep tuned!

Ayurveda

Ayurvedic skincare at its best with Tridosha

Ayurvedic skincare at its best with Tridosha

From food to therapies and skicnare thie ancient philosophy is firmly rooted in our modern world. "When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use; when diet is correct, medicine is of no need,” says an ancient Ayurvedic proverb that may help explain why this diet is catching on on our world.. With Ayurvedic cuisine the focus is very much on natural ingredients to cleanse and promote balance and happiness (think Turmeric, Cumin and many other spices). Jamie Oliver is on board as are a host of celebrities. Turmeric latte, turmeric golden latte rather, for anyone?

Ayurvedic-style retreats are filling fast too as people want to learn more.. Keep reading midlifeedit.com for reviews of some of the better places. Ayurvedic skincare is on the rise too - Tridosha is amongst my favourites.

Plant proteins

Lentils

Plant-based diets are super trendy now with pea protein in particular leading the whey (excuse the pun!) A recent trends story in The Guardian newspaper states that 'protein-packed dried and ground yellow split peas are this year's first big food trend'. Why? Because protein from peas is far more sustainable than animal-based proteins and it fits the current trend for high-protein diets, plant-based and meat-free eating. these yellow split peas and other plant-based proteins can morph into flour, milk and meat substitutes. From pea-based protein powders to bars, meals, smoothies and more....

Double Cleansing

Erase & Renew seriously cleans my face

Erase & Renew seriously cleans my face

I must confess that until very recently I had not hopped on the double cleansing wagon. I have always tried to keep my skincare routine as fast and efficient as possible, believing that massaging great cleansing products into my face at the end of the day was enough to leave my skin completely clean and ready for its nightly renewal. But, having recently tested the Double Cleanse System by hip Irish brand Pestle & Mortar, I have to admit that I was wrong! I am hooked.

Double cleansing is simply cleansing your skin twice:: First up is Erase, a makeup removing balm; smartly followed by Renew, a lightweight gel cleanser used with a dedicated cleanse facial cloth. Honestly,, my skin feels so so clean and fresh every time - just try it!

Simply being....not doing.

Beditation is the new buzz word judging by a recent story in the Sunday Times Style magazine. The term was coined by the author and business coach Laurence Shorter in his latest book, The Lazy Guru. As more and more people burn out, Beditation is a call fort rest and just being in the moment (akin to mindfulness in this way) - no effort required and no results needed. “Beditation is almost the opposite of meditation,” says Shorter. It is “simply a moment of morning mindlessness”. It aims to break that habit of waking up into a panicky to-do list. “No hurry, no goal, no chakra breathing, just relax."

Finally and lest I forget, herbal remedies, layering (as in product layering in skincare and fragrance), Kundalini yoga (my favourite style of yoga that is sett to have its moment) - more to come in due course so stay tuned!
